So What?

So what? What does this all mean?

The goal of this study wasn to see if Bryn Mawr College has caused a transformative process to occur for their multiracial students. It was surprising to learn that more current students seem to have issues with the way BMC engages with and supports their multiracial students, in comparison to alumni's sentiments. Alumni seemed to be very happy with their BMC experience regarding their racial composition. On the contrary, current students for the most part seemed to have some difficulty and had feelings of being ignored.

So what can we learn from this research? It is clear that current students would like for more administrative input on race relations as a whole. I believe the recognition by administration that multiracial students exist on campus would be a great first step. Having a multiracial affinity group would also be great initiative.

While I have had a transformative process during my time at BMC concerning identity in being biracial, this is not true for everyone. I think the main point we need to understand is that the number of biracial and multiracial students in college is rapidly increasing every year; therefore, we should be recognized by the institution and better supported.
